CREATIVE 101

Creatives, we need to consider ourselves as interconnected with the world around us and our greater purpose for existing.

The reality is that we were created to ‘create’ and when we don’t we can sometimes feel alien and banal. We have world-changing ideas (most of which we never share) but we often distance ourselves from the creative process because we feel incompetent or that our ideas are unachievable. In order for us to confidently follow through with our dreams we have to understand who we are and why we are as a collective identity – it makes sense, promise!

We hope that the next bit of information will give a different perspective on creativity and you will be able to extract information that is useful to you. Now this isn’t a complete list, but five points that we really want you to consider as a premise to creative discovery.

Creativity is not separate from God

Yes, I mentioned the capital G and I could never go on about creativity without a shout out to the Creator. He is the OG creator as he creates out of nothing!

The way that we create is a little different as we are inspired creatives, drawing on the knowledge of the Creator whether directly or from the world around us. For some of us, we see and we paint; we think and we write; we dream and we assemble. It’s supernatural when you think about it really!

So since creativity is not separate from God, then you, creative, are not either. You have the mind to think and imagine things beyond our realm, and bring concepts into this space- that’s awesome! Here’s a challenge, ask God for inspiration and create! Let us know what you come up with.

Creativity belongs to the church

It’s quite simple really. There’s no reason why, as a Christian, you should feel boxed in by a few stagnant no bible studying folk who think that there’s only a few permissible and recognised creative gifts.

But on the flip side, we are not too cool for the church. Listen creatives, we do not need to use our God-given gifts, talents and creative genius outside of His purpose. We totally get it, your local church might be draining you for programmes, and having you create flyers and strategies for promotion and singing everywhere and even now no one has asked you how you’re doing. But please don’t run away, run in. Now don’t misquote us, we’re not advising you not to explore beyond the four walls of your local church. We’re saying that there is a rightful place for creativity in the church and that it is in this space, amongst the brethren, is where your gifts, talents and creative genius should be nurtured and supplemented.
